With all the competition that is present in the netbook market, ASUS has had to up its game to remain on top when it comes to quality, reliability and speed. ASUS has consistently produced machines worthy of praise and its newest line of netbook offerings continues that trajectory to a greater degree. Meeting all of the requirements to be considered a netbook, ASUS has created a line of that offers something for everyone, regarding of price range or need for versatility. In this review, we will be exploring the specifications, pros and cons to the ASUS 1011PX-MU27 netbook and will determine whether or not this netbook selection is right for you.

Product Details and Features

Powering the ASUS 10.1” netbook is an Intel 1.66 GHz Atom N570 processor, which gives the unit more than enough processing performance to handle any task you throw at the machine. Hosting all of the programs and files you will be using is a 320 GB SATA hard drive, giving you ample storage for when you are on-the-go. Processing memory is provided via the 1 GB of RAM included (expandable up to 2 GB) and the three USB ports included give you access to all of your favorite USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard, thumb drives, etc.).

The Eee PC 1011PX comes with Windows 7 and Express Gate Cloud, which allows users to get online in an instant without the need to boot in to Windows. Have fun and surf, chat or play games with a user friendly interface. With a 10.1″ LED backlit screen (1024×600), the Eee PC 1011PX displays crisp and vivid graphics in a portable form factor. This netbook is available in a stylish seashell design with a unique wave pattern texture in black and white. The weight of the device is minimal, weighing just 2.75 pounds.

Pros

One of the biggest immediately-recognizable benefits to using the ASUS 1011PX-MU27 is its long battery life: on a single charge, you can expect up to ten hours of use. Seeing three different USB ports on this unit is definitely an advantage as many netbooks priced in this category only have two (or in some cases, just one). The size of the hard drive is another advantage in a modestly-priced unit such as this and it provides enough storage space to carry about 30 high-definition movies or up to 90,000 MP3s. Finally, the thickness of the unit is minimal and makes it great for stashing in a tote bag or other carry-on accessory; measuring just 1” thick, you can fit it almost anywhere.

Cons

We were extremely disappointed to discover that the ASUS 1011PX-MU27, with its three USB ports, does not have a single USB 3.0 port, making data transfer and lag-time between peripherals and the machine slower and longer. The unit includes a VGA Video Out port but unfortunately does not come paired with an HDMI port to facilitate easier transfer to larger screens. There is also no Bluetooth which is a little disappointing.

Conclusion

Priced in the middle of the netbook category, the ASUS 1011PX-MU27 can be picked up for approximately $299 through a number of major retailers. This unit – despite having a couple of downsides – makes a great unit to have when on the road or moving about frequently. With access to all your files, browsing, e-mail, videos and more, the ASUS 10.1” netbook performs very well.
