Weighing in at just under three pounds, the ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD is a phenomenal value for the price. It currently comes in two models: one comes with a 3-cell battery that gets about four hours of use ($249.99) and the other comes with a 6-cell battery that lasts about eight hours ($269.99). Available in blue, black or white, the ASUS netbook is powered by an Intel Atom 1.66 GHz processor and comes standard with 1GB of RAM which is upgradable. There is plenty of room for storage with the included 250 GB hard drive.

This model is unique in that it is the only one out of the five so far mentioned that comes with an Intel Atom N570 1.66 GHz dual-core processor. This netbook also sports a larger 320GB hard drive, making one wonder how this netbook only costs $280. Included with this device are a web cam, three USB ports and a 6-cell Li-Ion battery (8 hours of battery life). There is a one-year warranty with the device and it comes it a variety of four colors: Aquamarine, Espresso Black, Burgundy Red and Seashell White.

Other netbooks that are in the budget category include the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 0647 and the Acer Aspire One Happy2. The Lenovo netbook comes with a more modest 160 GB of storage and a good 1024×600 WSVGA LED backlit screen along with a 6-cell battery. The Acer version has a dual core 1.66GHz processor and includes a 250 GB hard drive and a full-size keyboard. Both include a web cam, three USB slots and 1 GB of memory. The Lenovo Ideapad costs $280 while the Acer Aspire starts at $270.

The HP Mini 110-3830NR, the Dell Inspiron Mini 1018-40 and the ASUS Eee PC X101-EU27 are all also heavy contenders in the powerful budget netbook category. All three have Intel single-core processors, web cams and MicroSD card readers. The ASUS model has a much smaller 8 GB SSD hard drive while the other two have 250 GB standard hard drives. The HP Mini has three USB slots as opposed to two on the other models and also has a 6-cell battery, whereas the other two models have 3-cell batteries. The HP Mini comes in one color (Black), while the ASUS comes in four different colors and the Dell netbook has three different variations. For those who like small things, the ASUS model is the lightest and thinnest netbook of all netbooks reviewed.
