I have the D255E also and it has the atom processor which is actually able to run 64 bit software. I figured it could probably use at least an upgrade to 2gb ram and I did get that to work ok. I think it should be able to use a 4gb stick but I think it has to be one-sided, but not sure about that. It may just be that it has to use the higher density chips on the ram. 8 chips per side and not 16 (which is configured as a double row of chips on each side of the ram). As far as I have been able to find out this is the way it works for ram. I have had no luck getting Acer to tell me. It seems as if they do not know what they make there as they cant seem to tell anyone what works in the computer they make unless you give them some serial number for it. They are not helping me build a better opinion of them by doing that.
On the whole the computer works well after I put in the 2gb stick of ram. I also installed a dual boot setup using Ubuntu (64 bit version) and it works fine. That system reports that the computer has 2 cpu's. Not sure if the win starter 7 shows that there are 2 cpu's or not. Ubuntu and linux rock!!!

What a well-written article this is. It's simple and straight to the point, and easy for most people to understand. Definitely getting a tablet for myself :) Can't believe netbooks are still around!

Hi Val

How to install programs on a netbook without a CD/DVD drive.

1. Buy an external USB CD/DVD drive.
2. You need to first copy the programs you like to install to the USB thumb drive by (using your laptop) and then start the installing from there.
3. Use network shared folder /drive. See this link https://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=13067 .

I hope this helps ^^
