Intel Atom Dual Core N550 Processor

Intel Atom N550 is the newly launched dual core processor by Intel. Since the introduction, it has gained great popularity among netbook users. Popular netbooks like ASUS Eee PC 1015PN, Eee PC 1015PEM 10.1-inch netbook, Acer Aspire One D255 10.1-inch netbook and Samsung NF310-A01 10.1-inch Netbook that are powered by the new Atom N550 processor are readily available in the market.

Intel Atom N550 processor vs. prior Intel atom processors:

Although Intel atom processors prior to N550 worked well and were able to consume less power, still there has always been the issue of performance. With the introduction of this new atom processor, Intel has increased the performance while experiencing the biggest change of being moved to double core processor from single core processors.

Dual Core:

The Intel Atom N550 processor supports two physical cores at 1.5 Gigahertz, DDR3 support. Since DDR3 is faster than DDR2 so netbook users expects to get better performance in the netbooks that uses Intel Atom N550 processor. As compared to its predecessor processors like N450, the new N550 dual core processor is known to consume less power. Hence, you not only work efficiently but also consume less electricity.

N550 Benchmarking:

According to early benchmarking results, user can get tremendous performance benefit from the dual core upgrade. ASUS’ Eee PC 1015PN netbook is amongst the first netbooks that are powered by the new Atom N550 processor. This netbook was benchmarked for its performance capabilities. According to N550 benchmark results, ASUS 1015PN netbook showed highest performance scores as compared to its competitors. Therefore it is foreseen that netbooks that use the Intel N550 processor will have competitive edge in terms of performance over other single core processors in the market.

Intel Atom N550 Netbooks:

Currently there are not many netbooks that support the dual core Intel Atom N550 processor. However, Intel is on its way to develop netbooks supporting this high-tech processor capability. Intel has many upcoming netbooks powered by dual core N550 processor.

Following is the list of Intel Atom N550 netbooks. Although many of them are not currently available in the market but Intel promises to launch them very soon.

  • ASUS Eee PC 1015PN” uses the Intel Atom N550 processor. 1015PN netbook is one of the very first netbooks that used N550 processor.
  • Acer Aspire One D255” and “ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM” also use the Intel Atom N550 processors.
  • Gigabyte T1005M” is a netvertible touch screen style tablet that will use Intel Atom N550 processor.
  • “HP Mini 210″ and “HP Mini 5103″ are also expected to use the Intel Atom N550 processor.
  • The new model of “Lenovo S10-3″ and “Packard Bell Dot SE” are also expected to have the Intel Atom N550 processor.

With the passage of time and with its increased demand, netbooks industry has shown much advancement. Intel’s transition from older processors to the newly built Intel Atom N550 processor has shown promising results in providing users with a better performance netbook in the amount they pay.
