The basics
Weighing slightly more than two and a half pounds, the Toshiba Mini NB305 offers so many wonderful advantages that it is difficult to detail them all in the space provided here. Like other ten inch models, it is sleek, small, and just the right size to be carried in a purse or garment bag. Yet despite its small size, Toshiba found room for a keyboard that is roomy enough to comfortably roam with your finger tips, as well as a sizeable touchpad that is perfect for easy screen navigation.
A workhorse
Looks, of course, are not the only thing that the Toshiba Mini NB305 has going for it. It also comes with a 250 GB hard drive that is given all of the security that Toshiba can provide – using 3D sensors that recognize any sudden impact that may occur when you drop it or drop something on the netbook. It also utilizes DDR3 memory to ensure faster speeds during processing, which makes the unit more than just a portal for email and browsing. You can actually get some work done on this netbook!
Long Battery Life
The battery is a six cell unit that provides more than eight full hours of uninterrupted usage before needing to be recharged. That means that you can use it during a series of meetings outside of the office, or carry it into several lectures a day without worrying about it dying in the middle of something important.
Travel-Friendly Features
The NB305 mini notebook is engineered to watch your back while you’re moving fast forward—with features like USB Sleep-and-Charge to keep you and your MP3 player or smart phone fully powered, a Hard Drive Impact Sensor to help safeguard your data, plus an international limited warranty.
Easy to use for everyday tasks
The NB305 netbook is a great thing made better. It features the latest Intel® Atom™ N455 CPU for improved performance and enhanced video capabilities, which speeds things up when you’re downloading and streaming Web video content. There’s also more storage, and advanced Wireless-N for faster Internet connection.
Stylish, eco-conscious design
The NB305 features a durable textured finish in four sophisticated colors. Plus, it’s built with a mercury-free LED-backlit display and comes with the power-Saving toshiba eco utility™.
Something for everyone
For multimedia users, the Toshiba Mini NB305 provides webcam capabilities, the netbook-oriented version of Windows 7, and full wireless connectivity that will make it one of the most important parts of your home and office computing network. Most of all, however, you will benefit from the well known Toshiba display resolutions. Though many companies use 1024 by 600 resolutions, few provide resolution as clear and colorful as that provided by Toshiba.

I can’t help but emphasize that this netbook is built for battery life. There are several battery saving switches that can be flipped in the BIOS, such as the processor being in power-saving “dynamic” mode vs. performance mode, always-on USB port, and turning on/off the power to the wireless card itself. Use your brain to figure out what combination is best for use and what is best for power consumption.
Windows 7 Starter lagged so much that I put Ubuntu on it, but on upgrade to 11.04 I found it lagged again so I switched to Xubuntu. So far it lags far less in a still user-friendly scenario.
The speakers at their loudest don’t put out much volume. To put it another way, if I’m in a soundproof room alone, I’d hear sounds as if they were at the expected “normal” volume levels. That would be with completely maxed volume levels at the software and hardware level. Not a multimedia machine!
No matter the OS or the amount of RAM, this laptop is not optimized for audio or video. It is great for note-taking with the 98% sized keyboard and I have zero cramping when typing at 150 wpm. The tiled keys (like a Mac) are another major plus.
Believe it or not, netbooks are used to surf the internet. With my setup (Xubuntu 11.04 with Chromium browser) I can surf without much lag, and even do some web development on the go! There’s a sim card slot too, leading me to believe it’s compatible with most carrier’s mobile internet plans.
Finally, after accidentally dropping the netbook 5-6 feet off of a lofted bed onto a rug (covering a cement floor), the only damage to the computer was the locking latch on the battery. It still stays in, but there’s no longer a safety mechanism. THAT’S THE FULL DAMAGE! Needless to say, I’m impressed. If you’re looking for something small, for taking notes, surfing the internet, and not much else, this is your prime choice.
